‘The Botanist’ is a homemade gin by Bruichladdich, flavored with 31 types of spices. Out of these herbs, 22 are also native to the island of Islay: juniper, elderberry, apple, sage leaf, marsh myrtle, chervil, peppermint, heather flower, chamomile, dandelion. The drink is distilled three times in a ‘Lomond’ distillery, nicknamed ‘Ugly Betty’, used in the 1950s. The distillation lasts for 17 hours, on a very slow fire, as a result of which the aromas of the herbs used for the flavouring dissolve incredibly softly in the alcohol, resulting in an exceptionally complex, floral gin.
